HSE fine after unguarded machinery leads to severe injury

A diary processing plant in Halesworth has been fined in excess of £32,000 after a HSE incident investigation uncovered that an unguarded and insufficiently serviced machine was responsible for an injury. The sufferer sustained a crushed right foot after elements of the machine descended without warning.

Farmer found guilty of manslaughter after volunteer death

A Devon farmer has, this week, been found guilty of manslaughter after a 20-year-old woman died whilst operating a milling machine. The unsupervised and untrained victim’s hair became entangled in rotating elements of the machine. The owner of the farm was found guilty of manslaughter through gross negligence after it was uncovered that he had been unwilling to invest in safety measures.

New campaign against workplace bullying launched

Ben, the mental health charity for the automotive sector, this week launched a new campaign to promote awareness on workplace bullying. The core of the campaign centred around dispelling the myths, prejudices and preconceptions surrounding workplace bullying, with the hopes of increasing discussion on the topic.
