Consultant Q&A Blog: Elizabeth

We’re back again with another Consultant Q&A!

This time we’re chatting to SHEQ Consultant Elizabeth about her role, goals, and recent challenges – keep reading to learn more.

What are you finding most interesting in your role currently?

The best thing about my role is that there’s always new bits and pieces to learn from all over the country. Recently I’ve gone from Norwich to Slough to all over Birmingham and there’s always something new to learn or see on every site.

Tell us about something you’re working on!

At the moment, I’m working on fire risk assessments and becoming more familiar with the regulations and how they interact with older buildings especially. After all, there’s a lot of listed buildings in the UK and what works for them differs greatly from a modern office block.

What’s a success you’ve had recently?

Recently, I’ve had the chance to carry out more ISO 45001 audits. Getting to grips with the standard and ISO auditing has been a long term goal.

What is an often-overlooked hazard on construction sites?

Construction sites are very busy with a lot of fast-moving works taking place.

Often, housekeeping can be a major issue on sites because waste and materials can build up so quickly.

If you don’t keep on top of it, then hazards like slips, trips and falls become a lot more likely.
