As some of you may have already heard, Senior SHEQ Consultant will be leaving WA Management soon to pursue a new opportunity.
James is one of the longest-standing members of our team, having been here for six years, and will be greatly missed!
However we’re sure he will excel in his new role, and we will send him off with the very best of luck.
We’ve done a little ‘goodbye’ Q&A with James to look back over his time here. Over to him!
What did you enjoy most about working at WA?
Definitely the ethic and culture that I have seen develop in our team during my time here. When I started, we were a 4-person team which has now more than doubled. Playing my part in that company growth under Will’s leadership from where we were to the excellent team that we have now and the service we provide to clients makes me very proud.
How do you feel your skillset has grown since you joined as a H&S Advisor Trainee Consultant 6 years ago?
My own personal growth during my tenure with WA is almost beyond words. When I started, I had completed the NEBOSH general certificate and knew nothing more than basic H&S theory. I will leave as a Chartered member of IOSH and practitioner within the CQI, with a level business knowledge that is down to the exposure to varied client industries, support from WA Management with my training as well as access to experience within the team and of course our client base.
What will you miss the most about working here?
Over the last 6 years I have built up good relationships with the team as well as the client base, many of which I would count among friends despite my professional capacity. I have no shame in saying I will miss those persons and interactions immensely.
You’ve been to quite a few team days during your time here – which has been your favourite?
That is a very difficult one. From indoor golf and frisbee golf to cocktail making and Go Ape! There have been so many escape rooms I can’t differentiate when certain ones were done! We went sailing a few times with Will and the standout day for me was the last time we did this we had a BBQ at Draycote water, had a play with the speedboat and I seem to recall people falling into the reservoir!
Tell us your top memorable moments of your time here!
There have been so many. Daily interactions in the office are usually witty and amusing and we have many shared interests so I will remember the team fondly! The two key memories I have though are when Will offered me the position all those years ago, as I was so happy to being given the opportunity to excel despite my inexperience, and whilst sad the recent decision made to move on and again Will being happy for me and my family with my new opportunity. These are the bookends of my tenure with WA which I have enjoyed immensely and given me the basis for my standards and career going forward.
