Harrods latest retailer to be hit by cyber attack
The luxury department store Harrods says it is the latest retailer to have been targeted by a cyber attack.
The firm said it had “restricted internet access at our sites” following an attempt to gain access to its systems.
It comes the day after the Co-op shut down parts of its IT systems to fend off a hack, while Marks & Spencer continues to deal with a cyber attack that has cost it millions of pounds in lost sales.
Harrods said its flagship store remained open, and it continues to operate its online sales.
Harrods did not clarify what the scale of the impact on its network was, but said customers were being asked to “not do anything differently at this point”.

Farmer fined following death of worker
A Gloucestershire farmer has been fined after the shepherdess he employed was killed in a quad bike crash.
Laura Simmons, was working alone on 2nd June 2023, spraying weed killer along fence lines, using the all-terrain vehicle (ATV) at a farm in Charlton Abbots near Cheltenham.
The overloaded quad bike overturned. The 22-year-old was found by a jogger several hours later.
Laura, described by her mother as “lively, caring and adventurous,” died from fatal spine injuries. An investigation by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) found the ATV overturned due to an overloaded front rack, uneven tyre pressure, unstable load from lack of baffles in the spray tank and the potential for the spray lance to be used during movement.

M&S customers in limbo as cyber attack chaos continues
Marks and Spencer (M&S) customers have been telling the BBC of their frustration as disruption caused by the cyber attack which has hit the retailer continues into another trading week.
The incident – which it disclosed last Monday – has caused delayed parcels, paused online orders and suspended gift card payments, and has seen the retailer take down several parts of its operations over the last few days.
It has yet to disclose the nature of the cyber attack or when it expects operations to return to normal. Some customers told the BBC that M&S’ communication over affected orders has been “disappointing”.
Analysts warn the incident may affect the retailer’s reputation.

Workers urged to reach for the sunscreen
Werner is urging professionals to take precautions to protect themselves against skin cancer, both during May’s Skin Cancer Awareness Month and beyond.
This follows 2024 research from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), which identified construction workers as a significant ‘at risk’ group for skin cancer due to ultraviolet radiation (UVR), predominately from natural sunlight exposure.
Due to their increased risk, Werner is reminding professionals to wear sunscreen, otherwise known as SPF, all year round, not solely during the spring and summer months. SPF is applied to prevent the DNA damage sunlight causes, which can lead to skin cancer.
With the warmest time of the year approaching, many professionals will be reaching for the sunscreen and taking extra precautions. However, it is important to know that UV rays can penetrate clouds in any weather conditions, even on rainy and overcast days.
