Introducing a new blog series: Consultant Q&As!
We wanted to give you more of an insight into the working lives of our consultants, and give them a platform for their experiences in the industry.
First up is Managing SHEQ Consultant Jake, who is going to share his current focuses, and recent challenges. Over to him!
What are you finding most interesting in your role currently?
We are seeing a lot more demand for environmental compliance for SME’s, which is being driven down the supply chain from larger organisations, UK NetZero and new legislation. Its great to develop processes and management to help compliance and reduce our clients’ impact on the environment.
What has been your biggest challenge recently?
It has been a tumultuous few years, with issues relating to COVID, global supply chain issues and the cost of living crisis.
This has made life difficult for some clients and has meant we have had to demonstrate a deep business understanding when making the case for health and safety.
Of course, not everything has been so bad and there are opportunities in most situations. We have continued to support clients throughout whilst finding inventive and pragmatic solutions despite recent issues.
What are you working on at the moment?
Currently I am supporting a few clients to get their first ISO certifications, in 9001 and 14001. The companies I’m working with come from a range of backgrounds and industries so its great to get an insight into how their businesses operate and how we can drive continual improvement.
What are you looking forward to in the coming months?
We have a few sports events coming up this summer, providing health and safety support for the IBSA World Games, Canoe Slalom World Championships and Formula Kite European Championships.
Although there is crossover, the safety considerations for live events is different to that in construction and manufacturing and brings its own challenges.
A lot of planning goes in, but you still must think on your feet. Its always nice to know you were part of putting on events when you see them on the TV!
