A worker at the Sainsbury’s Distribution Centre in Haydock was killed in an accident reportedly involving a fork lift truck.
Police and ambulance crews went to the warehouse, on Hall Wood Avenue, after employees reported their colleague had been injured.
The 30-year-old man was treated for serious head injuries by paramedics but died at the scene.
A police spokesman said: “An investigation into the circumstances of his death has commenced by St Helens Council Environmental Protection.
“A police family liaison officer is providing them with support at this difficult time.”
The incident took place on Hall Wood Avenue at 8.45pm on September 29.
Merseyside police said the cause of death was “unexplained”.
A Sainsbury’s spokesman said, “We can confirm that a Sainsbury’s colleague was fatally injured last week.
“We are working closely with the authorities to complete an urgent investigation into the cause of the accident.
“Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with his friends and family.”
