Health and Safety Site Induction: - Course Overview

The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 covers occupational Health and Safety in Great Britain. The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is responsible for enforcing the Act in the workplace. This course covers how to:

• Understand relevant health and safety law
• Recognise employer and employee health and safety responsibilities
• Apply key workplace health and safety practices
• Understand how to prevent slips, trips and falls
• Use safe manual handling techniques to help prevent injury
• Understand how to maintain a safe and secure site or building environment
• Recognise the importance of fire safety and evacuation procedures
• Understand how to work safely with electricity
• Handle hazardous substances safely and appropriately
• Recognise and interpret safety signs
• Understand basic first aid principles
• Follow appropriate accident reporting procedures

This course introduces users to the Health and Safety procedures in a working environment. It outlines the responsibilities of both employers and employees under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, the powers of the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and the importance of an organisation’s Health and Safety Policy.
