Net Zero

Supporting your carbon reduction goals

Net Zero

With the government committing to end the UK’s domestic contribution to man-made climate change by 2050, many businesses are looking inwards at their own energy usage and potential Net Zero goals.

Small businesses have a vital role to play in tackling the climate crisis, making up 90% of businesses worldwide, which is why WA Management have made their own pledge with the SME Climate Hub to reach Net Zero by 2040.

We are not only committed to reducing our own greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions – we also provide services to help your organisation increase its sustainability, build a business that is robust to climate change, and contribute to a better future.

ISO 14001

ISO 14001 is the most widely adopted recognised standard management system for improving environmental performance, providing a holistic framework that helps organisations manage not just GHGs but also the wider impacts on the environment a business may have.

Understanding how much GHG we produce is important in winning work and showing positive sustainable governance. ISO 14064 and the GHG protocol are two of the most widely used standards for correct GHG accounting methods.

WA can support businesses to implement these standards so that reliable data is gathered that can be reported publicly or transparently submitted when tendering for work.

Tendering and SSIP

Tenders and SSIP applications now often have optional environmental sections to complete, awarding you with additional merits and allowing you to win work or publicly display your sustainable business practices. This is for a number of reasons:

  • Many listed companies are required legally to report their GHG emissions, which includes emissions produced by their providers consider in their Scope 3 emissions
  • Larger companies are legally required to capture information about GHG production by SMEs within their supply chain
  • Businesses have the opportunity through the SSIP scheme to show off their sustainability and gain a boost in winning work, increasing profits.

PPN06/21

The government Procurement Policy Note 06/21 requires a carbon reduction plan be submitted on any work with a contract value above £5million. The carbon reduction plan will often cover:

  • A commitment to achieving NetZero by 2050.
  • A report of baseline and any current Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions.
  • A description of emission reduction targets.
  • An evaluation of carbon reduction projects, inclusive of completed and future initiatives to be implemented.

WA Management can help you to complete your own carbon reduction plan by providing the tools to track your emissions and advising on possible targets and projects.

Additional Net Zero Support Services

WA Management recognises that implementation of a full management system may not always be appropriate for all businesses, so can provide ad hoc support and tools throughout your Net Zero journey, via both ongoing advice and assistance, and the provision of tools in our Net Zero pack. This includes:

  • Carbon Policy – Net Zero Carbon Policy covering the steps to be taken to achieve net-zero carbon emissions and defining the different scopes involved in the holistic approach to be taken.
  • Business Mileage and CO2 sheet – for tracking CO2 emissions from business mileage, calculated based on distance travelled and vehicle details.
  • Environmental Monitoring Log – Comprehensive tracking sheet to monitor CO2 production via gas, electricity, and other means.
  • Net Zero Management Plan – Comprehensive planning document, detailing a checklist of actions, time frames, and responsibilities. This also increased a breakdown of emissions by category.
